The NHS teledermatology service in Tayside, Scotland, enables primary care professionals to assess patients, capture clinical and dermatoscopic images, and securely send the case and clinical question to a dermatologist. The specialist reviews the information remotely and recommends whether to manage the patient in primary care, request more information, or arrange a priority referral or biopsy. Over 14 years, the service reviewed more than 40,000 teleconsultations, with around half managed with recommendations back to primary care, helping avoid approximately 16,282 face-to-face consultations and prioritise urgent cases.
